Larry Sams, Heiman's grandson and The Shade Shop's current owner, began visiting his grandfather's store on Saturdays at the age of five. By his teenage years, Sams was a part-time helper, even helping install blinds in the downtown Penzoil Building. Sams upholds his grandfather's principle to offer expert service and only the best window coverings available -- he refuses to consider any product that does not meet his exacting standards. A promise of the highest quality and expert craftsmanship has earned the trust of four generations of customers.

While the 85 year tradition of manufacturing its own custom roller shades and laminated shades continues, The Shade Shop has expanded to stay ahead of new trends in architecture and design. Its current focus is on plantation shutters. "Plantation shutters are part of the overall trend to give rooms an open and warm feeling," says Sams. Plantation and traditional shutters are custom-made to exact specifications to provide furniture quality shutters.
